Pompano jogger using iPod is hit by train, loses legs - Por culpa de un iPod pierde las piernas

A 32-year-old woman was hit by a train in Pompano Beach just before noon Thursday in an accident that resulted in both of her legs being severed below the knee.

Cheryl Ann Risse of Pompano Beach was on her daily jog over the train tracks on her way to the Pompano Beach Air Park.

As she crossed the train tracks in the 2100 block of North Dixie Highway, she tripped and fell, the Broward Sheriff's Office said.

She was in the middle of the block in a location without railway signs or crossings.

'She was listening to music on her iPod. She was unaware and didn't hear the train approaching,' said Keyla Concepcion of BSO.

A Florida East Coast Railway train struck her and continued on. Officials said the train conductor did not see the woman.

Immediately afterward, a deputy driving by saw two arms waving in the air and stopped. The victim was conscious after the accident, authorities said.

The woman was taken to North Broward Medical Center in Derfield Beach. After surgery, she was listed in critical but stable condition. Her family declined to speak with reporters.
